Women's World Championship 2022: results of the first matches played

On December 11, 2022, the Ukrainian team marked its first appearance at the World Team Championship among women. Our national team lost to [7/8]Hong Kong, China in the morning session, and then the second against one of the favorites of the championship - England in the evening game.

The evening match on the open glass court was predictably dominated by third-seeded England, who dealt with debutants at the Women's World Team Championship in 52 minutes.

England's Julianne Cortis opened the fight with a 14-minute win over Anastasia Krykun, before Lucy Turmel defeated Milena Velichko in 17 minutes. The first racket of Ukraine Anastasia Kostyukova was able to put up more resistance against Jasmine Hatton in the final match, using a number of errors of the Englishwoman to her advantage in the first two games. But she could not take the game, losing with the score 11-7, 11-7, 11-2.

Despite the defeat in the first two matches played, the Ukrainian national team was full of impressions after its debut at the Women's World Team Championship.

The leader of the national team, the first racketeer of Ukraine, Anastasia Kostyukova, said:

"I am very happy to play and represent my country. Of course, these are difficult times, but we are glad to be here and to have this great experience. Representing Ukraine is a great honor for me and our entire team. Yes, we are not the strongest team, but we have positive emotions."

Kostyukova added that she advises her teammates not to be upset by the result: "We came here to get the experience of playing [at this level], and even if we didn't win one match, it doesn't mean the next one will be the same."

Ukrainian national team coach Kostyantyn Rybalchenko added: “Now is the perfect time for our team and our country to be represented and compete at this championship.

"It was not so easy to assemble a team, because some of our juniors now live not in Ukraine, but in Europe, and some players, on the contrary, are still in our country. In addition, we, coaches, men, therefore cannot leave our country.

"It's a great experience for us, the national team and each of the athletes, especially because it's the first time a women's team has participated in the World Championships.

"It is very important for us to be here, as our players did not have the opportunity to participate in tournaments in Ukraine. So getting the chance to compete again is a great opportunity for us.
