Polish Junior Open GP 2022: Ukrainian juniors won 3 medals!
From November 11 to 13, the Polish city of Wroclaw hosted a European squash tournament of the grand prix category among juniors. The Ukrainian "delegation" spent three days in Poland, choosing awards and medals.
There are 2 gold and 1 silver medal of European coinage in our piggy bank. According to the results of the international tournament, Anna Tarasova (girls under 13 years old) and Sofia Zrazhevska (girls under 17 years old) won the first places. Khrystyna Begeba, in turn, took second place.
Another European-level squash tournament among juniors, held in Poland, was held at a very high level. The participants had at their disposal one of the largest squash arenas in the world – Hasta La Vista, thanking the spectators and organizers for this with excellent games.
The result of the Ukrainian team can be considered successful - our juniors won three medals: sharing the third place with Hungary and the Netherlands in the overall standings. And the hosts of the tournament won in Wroclaw, beating us by five medals: the Poles took awards in eight age categories out of ten. The Czech school of squash also confirmed its status as one of the strongest in Europe. This time the Czechs won five medals.
In addition to the amazing results, it is worth noting the dynamics of the development of our juniors. After all, the result is not as important as the progress shown by the athlete. Below we will compare the results of the winners of 2022 and 2019!
Let's return to the Ukrainian juniors. Three Ukrainian women made it to the finals. 12-year-old Anna Tarasova (category under 13) became the winner of international competitions for the first time. Dnipro won the gold, beating her opponents 3-0 in the first three matches in a row and ending her triumph with a five-game match in her favor.

16-year-old Sofia Zrazhevska from Dnipro (under-17 category) improved on her last year's result by winning her age category. The 3/4 seed, who won last month's Otwarte Mistrzostwa Legionowa PSA Satellite in Poland, was in fine form again this time around, beating 9/4 seeds Luce Marusic, Weronika Zimecka and 2 seed Karolina Sramkova in the final [3/ 4] Maja Maziuk 8-11, 2-11, 11-7, 7-11.

The 5th racket among juniors under 15 years and the first seed Hrystyna Begeba (category under 15 years old) consistently takes the prize "silver" for the second year in a row, beating her opponents from the Czech Republic with a score of 3:0 in the first two matches and in the semifinals Timeea Maria Dumitrascu from Romania with a score of 3:2. Unexpectedly, the favorite of the tournament lost in the final to Natalia Mierzejewska from Poland with a score of 10-12, 7-11, 10-12.

The current silver medalist of the Cup of Ukraine among juniors 2022 – Shneider Artem – was not left without awards in the under-11 category. The debutant of Polish competitions took an honorable 4th place in his age group.
In total, 13 participants from Ukraine performed in Wroclaw. Among the other athletes, Milena Velichko (GU17), Anastasia Krykun (GU17), Mykyta Tomenchuk (BU11), Yehor Matyukhov (BU11) and Daria Vlasenko (GU15) were the most successful, who took fifth, seventh, seventh, eighth and eighth place, respectively.
