Bushma sets new records: the results of the Individual European Championship 2019!
The four-day Individual European Championship 2019 in Romania has ended. The tournament consisted of individual championship in 2 categories between men and women. Since 1973, the World Squash Federation (WSF) has been hosting this championship and at first only a team tournament was played. Since 1990, they began to conduct an individual. Among 56 players, the stronger were the Germans, represented by Raphael Kandra [1/1] and the Belgians, represented by Nele Gilis [1/1]. Representatives of Germany and Belgium became champions at this tournament for the first time in history.
The European Individual Championship turned out to be no less interesting and spectacular for Ukraine. And of course, the main result and achievement for all Ukrainian squash was the eleventh place in the women's single, which was won by Alina Bushma from Kiev. This is already a very decent result, taking into account the fact that the last time the Ukrainian flag was in the top 13 in squash at the European Championship was 3 years ago, in 2016, then in Prague Nadezhda Usenko took thirteenth place in this category.
In the first match Bushma was stronger than Chukwu Chinyere [17/24] and won it 3: 1. Both squash players gave the audience the delight of the first-class game, and Bushma was already making plans for the final with the scores 5-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6. But at the next stage, Alina had a kind of exam - she was opposed by the fifth seeded Anna Serme. Unfortunately, our athlete did not manage to beat the Czech, but it is worth noting that Serme herself won this victory much more difficult. But even after the defeat, the Ukrainian found the strength and swept off the court one of the best Slovak squashists Andrea Malinova.
In the future, she lost only in one meeting, taking the final 11th place. But here it is worth noting that our junior got into a very difficult opponent. Karina Tyma has been considered the strongest squash player in Poland for many years and has a large number of victories at international tournaments (such as, for example, "French JO2018", "EICC U19", which usually attracts a large number of players from different countries).
By the will of the lot, Alina ended the competition with a match against Michaela Cepová [9/16] from the Czech Republic. Bushma calmly took all the threads of the meeting into her own hands and calmly won the match. And at the same time she set the Ukrainian record of performances at the continental championship - eleventh place.
The Squash Federation of Ukraine congratulates Alina on this difficult, but very enjoyable, entertaining and important game! Congratulations to trainers Ahmed Mohamed, Dima Kravchuk, everyone who loves squash and understands how difficult and valuable a mark from a tournament of this level is.
