Usually, the off-season takes 1 to 2 months for players. But this year all the players faced an extraordinary situation. Due to quarantine measures around the world, clubs were closed and competitions were canceled. For many players, it was a matter of motivation and purpose. But I would like to draw attention to the uniqueness of the current situation. Its uniqueness is that the average player in the off-season, busy most of the time, is recovering, but the time to change and improve skills takes less than required for drastic changes.

1. The first thing to pay attention to is the improvement of technical skills. There is time to look at yourself from the side. Record your workout on video. Pay attention to your swing, grip, movement, do you like it? Discuss this with the coach, and begin to methodically adjust, and what was previously corrected. Keep a video all the time during the workout, check your actions and analyze it with the coach.

Pay special attention to movement, movement on the court, this is the most important aspect of the game. I know that everyone who plays squash, at any level, from amateur to professional, from junior to master, knows what ghosting is and does it. It is often seen on the court performing a ghosting player moving on the court between stations, with a focus only on speed. It looks as if the player is doing the necessary work.

But few pay attention to detail. Note the first step from the T-zone, returning to the T-zone after impact. Are you in a relaxed state and in rhythm? Also, shoot everything on video, and watch with your coach, pay attention to the smallest details.

2. Second, there is a good opportunity to improve fitness, pay attention to strength. During the season, the player has a tight tournament schedule. The development of strength in the training process takes him little time. This can be explained by the fact that strength training reduces such indicators as speed and agility. Nobody wants to exchange it during the tour. It's time to work hard. You need to work both on the specific force for the player, in squash reactive force is very important, and in general, it will help you protect yourself from injury.

In any case, do not engage in self-training, consult a specialist. The least harmful thing that can happen - this training may not be very effective, not very useful for our sport, and in the worst situation lead to injury.

3. The third and most important thing is the psychological state. With a long break in performances, for many athletes there are questions related to psychology. It is very difficult to train mentally, especially to change yourself, if in the near future the player does not have important competitions for him.

How to keep yourself in focus and tone?

First of all, it is worth remembering why you started playing squash. Maybe at first you really liked this game, maybe for you it's more than a game, for you it's a passion, you enjoy going out on the court, and only then it's ratings, places and recognition. This realization will help you enjoy not only the tournament, but also exhausting hard training. Review and set the right long-term goals. This will help you overcome many difficulties along the way if you understand why you are training and improving. Breathing practices and meditations can also help you find peace and be in focus.
